The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
